General Policies
Department of Education Registration
In California, private elementary schools are required to register
yearly by submitting a Private School Affidavit to the Department
of Education (Education Code 33190). This form, along with our
written curriculum, is filed with the Superintendent of Public
Instruction.
Licensing
The Preschool Section of the school is licensed by the California
State Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division
(CCLD) and conforms to all state laws and regulations pertaining
to the operation of child day care centers. Our center is licensed
for 49 children.
State law requires annual unannounced visits and inspection of
our school facility by a CCLD representative. The CCLD has the
right to inspect the facility and interview children without prior
parent authorization or consent. The purpose of the visit is to
ensure that the school conforms to all state laws and regulations.
Transcripts and Cumulative Records
Administration will maintain all legal transcripts and cumulative
records as provided by law. Student records are confidential and
therefore open only to the childs teacher, the school Principal,
an authorized employee of the licensing agency, or the childs
parent or legal guardian. Progress reports of student achievement
will be provided to the parents by the teachers. Parent-Teacher
Conferences will be held at the end of each academic semester.
Assessment
Acknowledging the right of parents to know how their child is
doing in school, progress reports will be issued at the end of
each semester. Parent-teacher conferences are required at the
end of each grading period and whenever needed or desired. Completed
samples of work will be maintained in the students portfolio
and be made available to parents to keep them informed of progress.
Arrivals and Departures
Music and meditation begins at 9:05 am. Class begins at 9:15 am.
Children who arrive after 9:00 are considered late and must wait
at designated areas until escorted to class by a school staff
member. Parents shall be responsible for transporting their children
to and from school.
Sign-In/Sign-Out Procedures
Parents are required to sign their child in and out of school
each day. This record is proof that your child is on site and
is used in emergency situations. If a child is to be picked up
by someone other than a legal guardian, prior written notification
is required. Parents/Guardians, are required to provide the school
with the names of at least two persons authorized to pick up the
child in case of illness or emergency. A photo ID will be required
for anyone picking up the child. If either parent is not allowed
to pick-up the child, a court order must be provided and placed
in the students file. In the event a person other than those
listed in the student file will pick up a child, we will require
an advance written notice from the parent. In the event of an
unforeseen emergency, a verified phone call from the parent must
be made to the school in order for the child to be released to
anyone not listed in the students file.
Absences/Attendance
Parents/Guardians must inform the school immediately when their
child is absent. A note duly signed by parent/guardian stating
the reason for and duration of absence should accompany the child
when returning to school.
Appointments
Parents may pick up students from school for such appointments
as medical, dental or emergency circumstances by signing them
out through the office only.
Visits and Conferences
Parents must sign-in/out through the office whenever they wish
to observe or enter a class for whatever reason. To speak with
the principal or a teacher, appointments must also be made through
the office. There will be at least 2 conferences (per child) each
school year, each lasting about 20 minutes. Additional conferences
may be scheduled at the request of parent or teacher.
Airing Views, Comments, and Grievances
Concerns regarding the school, its policies and procedures, actions
of staff members and students, must be expressed to the school
administration only. Concerns related to classroom procedures
and other educational issues should be brought to the attention
of the appropriate classroom teacher. Complaints about specific
teachers or staff members should be brought to the school principal.
Concerns regarding a child other than your own may be brought
up with the teacher concerned or staff involved only.
Before and After School Care
CIE is open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Day care hours for the all
children will therefore be from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, when classes
begin and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm after class hours. Children
arriving before 8:45 am must be signed into day care. They must
be signed in and out with the teacher in-charge.
Snacks and Lunches
Each day CIE will provide the Preschool/Kindergarten children
with snacks consisting of at least two food groups. All children
will be offered a morning snack around 10:15 and in the afternoon
around 4:00. If your child is allergic to any food, please communicate
this to our staff. We will offer such foods as crackers, grains,
fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese, milk, and juice.
Lunches are to be brought from the home. They should include some
form of protein, such as meat or cheese sandwich on whole grain
bread and fruit, juice or milk. No candy, and limit sweets, please.
Dress Code
Maintaining a dress code encourages good grooming and appropriate
clothing most effective for working and playing in school. Children
must be dressed comfortably. No thongs or bare feet will be allowed.
A change of clothes should be kept at school for each child at
all times.
School Disaster Plan
In the event of fire and other disasters, we are prepared to provide
for the safety and well being of all the children. A copy of the
school disaster plan is available for review upon request. The
school shall keep updated the First Aid and CPR training of our
staff members. Fire and disaster drills are conducted on a regular
basis and children are instructed where to go and what to do when
disaster occurs. Parents or their designated representatives may
pick up their children as soon as it is safe to do so. Emergency
supplies such as first aid kits, food, and flashlights, labeled
for use in case of emergency, are stored in each classroom. Our
emergency relocation site is Subway Sandwiches, 9242-35 Miramar
Road. In the event a school wide emergency occurs, the parents
will be contacted as soon as possible and asked to pick their
children up at the designated relocation site.
Medical Emergency
In the event of a serious medical emergency, 911 will be called
and a certified staff member will administer basic first aide
or pediatric CPR. Parents will be contacted immediately.
Medication Policy
The school will dispense prescription medication, sunscreen, and
over-the-counter medicine only with written authorization from
the parent. Medications must be provided by the parents, and in
their original containers. We will not administer any medication
that has expired. Prescription medication must be accompanied
by the doctors dosage instructions. We recommend that you ask
your childs physician to prescribe a 12-hour dose of medication
when appropriate. This allows the parents to control medication
at all times. All medications must be given to a staff member
upon arrival at school. Any unused medication not picked up by
the parent will be disposed of.
Field Trips
Field trips may be scheduled throughout the school year. They
may be taken by individual classes or by the school as a whole.
Parental permissions will be required for all field trips and
parents assistance, particularly with transportation, may be
requested.
Holidays and Vacations
CIE will observe the following legal holidays: New Years, Presidents
Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July,
Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. The winter holiday
vacation will last for two weeks from mid-December to early January.
Spring Break will be one week. Please see school calendar for
actual holiday dates
.
Birthday Celebrations
A childs birthday is probably the single most important event
of the whole year. We honor this special event by allowing each
child to share his or her special day with classmates and teachers.
Parents are welcome to provide special treats that day.
